Westminster : Man Shoots His Former Girlfriend, Kills Himself

A man trying to reconcile with his former girlfriend wounded her early Sunday, then committed suicide in the apartment the woman shared with three other people, a police spokesman said.

Sgt. Warren O’Neill said Tung Tran, 29, of Santa Ana went to the apartment in the 15600 block of Brookhurst Street at 6:35 a.m. and argued with the woman before shooting her, then turning the gun on himself.

Both were transported to Fountain Valley Hospital and Medical Center, where the man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The woman, identified by a roommate as Thuy Tran, was listed in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

One of the roommates, Dux Ainh Tran, 19, said he thought the couple had broken up two or three weeks ago.

Sunday morning, “he was telling her that he wanted her back, but she told him that she did not want to talk to him anymore,” Tran said. At that point, he said, he heard two gunshots and saw the woman lying wounded on the floor screaming.

“I opened my eyes and he was pointing the gun at me,” Tran said. He said he ran to a bedroom, awakened another roommate, and the two escaped through a bedroom window.
