A sheriff’s deputy suffering from AIDS will be allowed to attend classes at the San Francisco Police Academy starting next month if he can pass the required physical. The deputy, who was not publicly identified, is one of 20 officers from various law enforcement agencies scheduled for a 532-hour training course at the academy, a Police Department spokesman said. The department cannot legally refuse to train the person, said Sgt. Jerome Senkir, department spokesman. “The only hang-up might be, can he get a medical clearance?” An official with the San Francisco Police Officers Assn. said the union was “very concerned” about the situation and would discuss it with police administration.
