Justices Halt Execution of Louisiana Mass Killer

WASHINGTON —
The Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked the scheduled execution today of a Louisiana man convicted of murdering five people in 1982.
The high court granted an emergency request to spare Leslie Lowenfield’s life until the justices study a formal appeal filed in his behalf.
There was no word on when the court might act on Lowenfield’s formal appeal.
