The abbot of the San Francisco Buddhist Center agreed to perform 30 hours of community service after pleading guilty a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm in public. Reb Anderson, 43, who was chosen to head the pacifistic Buddhist group 18 months ago, was cited in April by police who spotted him with a pistol--which turned out to be unloaded--in a housing project near the Zen Center. He said he was chasing a mugger.
