State game officials called off their search for a mountain lion or bobcat seen on the campus of the University of California, Riverside, saying the animal seemed to have left the area. The search began after a campus guard reported seeing a mountain lion. Department of Fish and Game officials brought tranquilizer dart guns to handle the beast. University spokeswoman Kathy Barton said the staff of the California Museum of Photograhy, located near where the cat was last seen, was evacuated. But the only tracks found were those of a large bobcat, and the search was abandoned when tracking dogs were unable to find a scent.
