Down by 5-0 after 3 1/2 innings, the Toronto Blue Jays had to walk before they could run.

The Blue Jays scored nine runs in the seventh inning, built around six walks, and went on to a 15-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night at Toronto.

Lloyd Moseby hit a two-run triple, and Tony Fernandez hit a two-run single to highlight the decisive inning.

“It was fairly ugly,” Milwaukee Manager Tom Trebelhorn said. “It was very embarrassing and humiliating.”

Mark Clear, who replaced Milwaukee starter Ted Higuera to begin the seventh, walked the first two batters but appeared to be escaping from the jam when he got Jesse Barfield to force Fernandez at third and George Bell to fly to short right for the second out.

But Clear (5-2) walked Cecil Fielder and went 3-0 on Kelly Gruber before getting a strike and then walking home the go-ahead run.

Chris Bosio relieved Clear, and Ernie Whitt was brought in to pinch-hit for Charlie Moore. Whitt went to 3-2, fouled off six pitches and walked to force Barfield home and make it 8-6. Willie Upshaw walked off Paul Mirabella to force in the ninth run, and Manny Lee got the first hit of the inning, an RBI single.

Fernandez followed with a two-run single, Moseby tripled home two more runs, and Barfield doubled home the ninth run of the inning before Bell made his second out of the 13-batter inning.

New York 10, Boston 5--Mike Pagliarulo led off the 13th inning at Boston with a homer that sparked a five-run outburst and extended the Yankees’ winning streak to five games. Pagliarulo’s ninth homer of the season came off Joe Sambito (1-2) who entered in the 10th inning.

After Pagliarulo’s homer, Sambito got Mark Salas to fly out, but Bobby Meacham singled and Wayne Tolleson walked. Wes Gardner relieved Sambito and walked Willie Randolph to load the bases before Tom Bolton gave up a two-run double to Dan Pasqua and a two-run single to Gary Ward.

The Yankees got a season-high 19 hits off five Boston pitchers.

Charles Hudson (7-2), who was scheduled to start Sunday’s game against Boston, pitched the final three innings for his first victory since May 15. He was the sixth Yankee pitcher.

Detroit 5, Baltimore 3--Jack Morris (10-2) won his ninth straight game and joined Kansas City’s Bret Saberhagen (12-1) as the only 10-game winners in the major leagues when he won at Baltimore on a six-hitter for eight innings.

The six hits he gave up included a solo homer by Fred Lynn, but he also struck out six--all in the first four innings. Willie Hernandez pitched the ninth for his third save.

Alan Trammell’s run-scoring grounder in the eighth helped the Tigers to their sixth victory in their last seven games.

Minnesota 7, Chicago 6--Tim Laudner hit a home run on the first pitch in the ninth inning at Minneapolis as the Twins handed the White Sox their fifth straight loss. Laudner’s homer, his seventh of the year, came off Chicago reliever Jim Winn (2-3).

Seattle 7, Cleveland 4--Rey Quinones drove in three runs with a solo homer and a two-run single to lead the Mariners to a victory at Cleveland, their fifth straight.
