Henry J. Hope; Headed Newport Advertising Firm

Henry J. Hope, former creative director and president of B.J. Stewart Advertising and Public Relations of Newport Beach, has died of cancer. Hope, of San Juan Capistrano, was 62.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1924, Hope was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a character actor in Hollywood in the late 1940s and was a disc jockey and television writer in the 1950s before beginning a career in advertising.

He joined B.J. Stewart in 1980 and became the company’s president in 1982. He left the company last year after cancer was diagnosed. He died Wednesday.

Hope is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, David and Jamie; two daughters, Valerie Hope and Laurie Stein; four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were conducted at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Assn.
