Congregation Honored for Work With Inmates
The state Department of Corrections has awarded Kehillat Ma’arav-The Westside Congregation in Brentwood with a plaque for volunteer service at the California Institution for Women in Frontera.
For the past three years, Rabbi Mel Gottlieb and a small group of women from the congregation have visited the prison to celebrate Jewish holidays with members of the Shalom Sisterhood, a group of about half a dozen inmates.
