Barbara Jernigan of Newport Beach, who underwent a liver transplant in a Pittsburgh hospital, showed improvement was listed in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. On Friday, Jernigan was in critical condition but her condition improved during the weekend, said a spokeswoman at Pittsburgh’s Presbyterian University Hospital, where Jernigan underwent her transplant. Jernigan, founder of the PMS Center of Orange County, was stricken with primary biliary cirrhosis, an incurable disease unrelated to alcohol.
