Fresno Task Force Bolstered to Search for Killer of Girl, 6
More detectives and lab experts were added Tuesday to a police task force looking for a killer who molested and murdered a 6-year-old girl and then set her body on fire in a schoolyard.
Detective Lt. Richard Lindstrom, in charge of the investigation, described Sunday’s killing of Teresa Cervantes near her home as “the most deplorable crime I have seen in the 17 years I have been with the Police Department.”
The girl’s body was found by two boys who cut through the Aynsworth Elementary School yard as they were walking to church Sunday morning.
Lindstrom said an autopsy showed the girl was dead before her body was doused with flammable liquid and set afire. He refused to reveal what type of injury caused her death.
