Covina : Grant for Women’s Shelter
The county has approved a $100,000 Community Development Block Grant for a new shelter for battered women and their children, which will be operated by the San Gabriel Valley YWCA. The remaining cost, $168,500, has been raised by the YWCA.
Since 1980 the YWCA has provided emergency shelter and services to battered women but needs larger quarters. The other two shelters for victims of domestic violence in the San Gabriel Valley are in Pasadena and Pomona.
