Sports Briefs : Walkin’ Willie Made It
William (Walkin’ Willie) Croker of Hawaiian Gardens arrived at the White House on Wednesday to complete his 2,730-mile walk across the country to generate support for cancer research. Croker said the last stretch of his walk in Virginia was “140 miles of rocks.” As a result, he said he may have to have surgery on his right heel. “I have great pain in my legs and bites all over me,” said Croker, who lost 34 pounds on his trip that started April 20 in Hawaiian Gardens. He said Tuesday that he expected to meet later in the week with President Reagan or Vice President George Bush.
