The federal government has agreed to pay $50,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a Camarillo teen-ager who broke both legs in a 1983 motorcycle accident in Los Padres National Forest.

Ventura lawyer Bruce Mayfield said U.S. District Judge Jesse W. Curtis signed a settlement order earlier this week that provides a $50,000 payment to Sean O’Donnell, 18, for the motorcycle accident that has prevented him from running or playing contact sports.

Mayfield said a 14-year-old O’Donnell broke both legs Sept. 3, 1983, at the hip joint, during a high-speed, unsupervised ride along steep dirt trails in the park in the northwest corner of Ventura County.
