Michael Secrest of Flint, Mich., rode his bicycle through Benoit, Kan., with a 57-mile lead over Robert Forney of Evergreen, Colo., in the Race Across America, from San Francisco to Washington. Michael Trail of Coleville, Wash., was another nine miles back.
Among the women, Casey Patterson of Topanga, was 57 miles ahead of Cheryl Marek of Seattle crossing the Colorado-Kansas border, but Marek had cut 20 miles off Patterson’s lead during the day.
