West Hills Residents Post $1,500 Reward in Desecration of Temple

A property owners association posted a $1,500 reward Friday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of vandals responsible for the desecration this week of a Jewish temple in West Hills.

West Hills Property Owners Assn. also announced plans to assemble a volunteer foot patrol of Temple Solael on the 6600 block of Valley Circle Boulevard.

“We want to raise the issue and address it from within the community,” said Stephen Ogg, an association spokesman.

Ogg said the Jewish Defense League had discussed patrolling the temple but temple members feared vigilantism.

The rabbi at the temple, which was spray-painted late Tuesday or early Wednesday with anti-Semitic slogans, was enthusiastic about the reward.

“I think it’s a wonderful thing that reflects genuine concern,” Rabbi Bernard Cohen said.
