Checkpoint Snarls

Share

We feel that increasing problems encountered by most motorists who need to travel through the San Onofre Border Patrol Checkpoint should be brought to your attention.

Thousands of motorists must pass through this checkpoint everyday, and most of these motorists are just trying to get to and from work. Everyday we encounter the same problems--two lanes are closed, leaving two lanes open on Interstate 5, which causes a traffic pileup of at least 45 minutes on occasion to get through this checkpoint.

The situation that makes us most angry is that we are sometimes stopped and our car is searched. We are trying to get to work. We are not transporting illegal aliens or drugs, and we resent the assumption that we are. What happened to not being searched without a search warrant or probable cause?

Doesn’t anyone realize that this activity is holding up at least 99% law abiding citizens day in and day out just to try to catch a few Mexicans that are going to manage to get back in again one way or another? Doesn’t anyone realize how frustrating it is to have to wait in long lines everyday on the way to work just to be encountered by fully armed Border Patrol agents?
