Going to Bat for Little League

So much is written negatively about Little League and the “win at any cost” philosophy that we wanted to write and say that Little League can also instill friendships and team work.

Earlier this season, our son, Jason, collected $17 for the North Sunrise Little League by selling candy. On the way to turning his money in to the league, the envelope with the cash was lost. After a fruitless search, Jason told us of his loss but said he would take the money from his allowance.

When team mother Melinda Miller and the Phillies heard about this, they began collecting aluminum cans. It took all season, but the Phillies presented Jason with $17.

We are very proud of Jason for using his own money to repay a debt, but we are also proud of the 12 members of the Phillies for their friendship and support. They are Joey Cork, Robbie Evett, Matt Hafner, Roger Martinez Jr., David Miller, Brett Pease, Aaron Miranda, Chris Pennington, Joey Vega, Aaron Murrietta and Elijio Serrato.

This is what we think Little League is all about.
