London Police Arrest Intruder at Gate to Buckingham Palace
A runaway mental patient burst into the front court of Buckingham Palace but was immediately arrested, police said Sunday.
Queen Elizabeth II was in Scotland at the time of the intrusion Saturday night, and no other members of the royal family were at the royal home, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.
Police said the man ran into the front courtyard of the palace, darting through a staff gate in the view of tourists but was immediately tackled and arrested.
The spokesman said the man fled a mental hospital in London’s East End and was returned there shortly afterward. Police released no details on the young man.
