Two inmates were shot and at least four others were stabbed in a riot at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y., authorities said. A spokesman said the melee began with a fight between two inmates in the yard of the maximum-security prison. Guards separated the two, but the 800 inmates in the yard surged toward a gate as the pair were escorted through it and back inside the prison. More fights broke out, during which the stabbings occurred. Warning shots from a tower guard broke up the crowd, but two rounds hit inmates.
