MexFest wasn’t so peaceful after all. Several news sources reported Thursday that a Mexican police officer was shot and that about 50 people, half of them Americans, were arrested during the multi-act rock concert at the Caliente Race Track in Tijuana. The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Tuesday inside the race track while the concert was going on, said Javier Gonzalez Gallo, chief accident investigator for the Tijuana police. The officer, identified as Bogarin Flores, received a superficial wound in his right arm. There also were numerous arrests for drunkenness and fighting. Seven vehicular accidents also were reported after the concert, two involving U.S. citizens. The eight-hour concert featured the Bangles, Oingo Boingo, the Fixx, Squeeze, Hoodoo Gurus and Chris Isaak and was accounted a success, but Gonzalez said that after Tuesday night’s event, he is opposed to having any future rock concerts in the border city.
