Oakland police hailed a 5-year-old boy who rescued his 17-month-old sister in a robbery and assault case as a hero. Marlon Leon of Hercules, and his younger sister, Amber, were abducted by a man who jumped into the car where the children were waiting for their father to come out of a store. After robbing an elderly lady in a parking lot in Orinda, the man drove to Oakland where he abandoned the car and the children. Police said Marlon, who was in the back seat, undid his seat belt and took his sister from the front seat. Oakland Police Sgt. Brian Thiem said Marlon, with his sister in tow, walked across six busy lanes of traffic to a laundry where he told the owners they were lost. A reunion with their parents followed. “He was real sharp, a hero,” Thiem said.
