Newport Beach : Donations Sought for OCC Boating Center

Share

The Orange Coast Foundation is trying to raise $175,000 by Dec. 1 to complete financing of additions and renovations to Orange Coast College’s Rowing and Sailing Center.

While the community college itself is situated in Costa Mesa, the college’s picturesque Rowing and Sailing Center is off West Coast Highway in Newport Beach. The center is popular with painters and sightseers, who come to sketch or watch the colorful crew races.

David A. Grant, director of marine programs at Orange Coast College, said the overall modernization of the Newport Beach facility will cost $350,000. “The Harry and Grace Steele Foundation of Newport Beach has pledged $150,000; this extraordinary grant must be matched by Dec. 1,” Grant said.

Grant said the Orange Coast Foundation has so far raised another $25,000 toward the $350,000 total cost. “The remaining $175,000 must come from private gifts,” Grant said. “No public funds are available. Donations are tax deductible, and all donors will be recognized.”
