In two unrelated incidents that Los Angeles police described as “out-and-out sheer vandalism,” three teen-agers vandalized and flooded the Brentwood Elementary School while two others tried to burn it down. In the first incident, three vandals broke dozens of windows in the school’s main building at 740 Gretna Green Way, tossed papers on the floor and turned on the water. Sgt. Jeff Hanson said the three youths were arrested, booked for investigation of felony vandalism, and released to their parents. Damage was estimated at between $10,000 and $15,000. Hanson said two other teen-agers were arrested later after officers discovered them trying to set fire to a bungalow on the school grounds. There was no major damage. The two also were released to their parents after being booked on similar charges.
