Veteran jockey Jerry Lambert was hospitalized after he was thrown from his mount in the fourth race at the Alameda County Fair at Pleasanton, Calif.
Track officials said Lambert’s mount, Quita Kid, broke her bit as she was taking the lead around the far turn.
Lambert, 46, was taken to Valley Memorial Hospital in Livermore. A hospital spokesman said Lambert had a collapsed right lung, broken right cheekbone and pain in his right abdomen below his rib cage.
