Countywide : Attorneys for Ramirez to Seek Hearing Delay

Share

Attorneys for Richard Ramirez, the man accused of being the Night Stalker, will seek a one-week delay in his preliminary hearing, scheduled to begin today, on charges of rape and attempted murder, the prosecutor said Monday.

“All we know is that they (the defense attorneys) want more time to review the evidence,” said Orange County Chief Deputy Dist. Atty. James G. Enright.

Enright said he expected no other action to be taken today in the courtroom of Central Municipal Judge B. Tam Nomoto.

Ramirez is accused of breaking into the Mission Viejo home of William Carns and his fiance on Aug. 25, 1985. The woman was raped and Carns was shot three times in the head. He is still in recovery therapy.

Ramirez is scheduled to stand trial in September on charges involving 14 murders in Los Angeles County.
