Ten children who were injured on a tram train that flipped over at a Sunday afternoon Navy picnic were released from various local hospitals in good condition Monday, officials reported.

Navy police said they were still investigating what caused the tram train, driven by Ken Drummond of San Diego, to turn over as it rode downhill on a sidewalk at Admiral Baker Field in San Diego.

Ten out of 20 children on board the three-car train were treated at area hospitals for scrapes, head bumps, aches and bruises, officials said. Although one child, Christina Wolff, 3, was kept overnight for observation at Children’s Hospital, no one was seriously injured, according to Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Willie O’Neal.

The children, ages 1 to 13, took the free train ride at the federally owned recreation park during an all-day celebration of the guided missile cruiser Leahy’s return from sea, O’Neal said.

San Diego firefighters, who were called to the park at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, reported that the train overturned as it attempted to make a turn.
