Lear and Field Thinking Small for Weddings

For political events, both the bridegrooms attract a big crowd. But it’s all in the family for Norman Lear and psychologist Lynn Davis when they do the nuptial route in early September. Just a small, quiet wedding in Northern California, where the bride hails from. Right here at home, look for another small gathering when the vows are exchanged in early September between Interscope Chairman Ted Field and Susan Bollman at their home, the former Harold Lloyd estate in Beverly Hills.

AIDS EFFORTS--AIDS Project L.A. honors researcher and advocate Dr. Mathilde Krim with its “Commitment to Life” Award on Nov. 1 at the Wiltern Theatre. Last year, in a fund-raising weekend that included a dinner and walkathon, almost $2 million was raised for APLA, which provides services for persons in Los Angeles County with acquired immune deficiency syndrome and AIDS-related diseases as well as education. Last year, the dinner followed a performance at the Wiltern and benefit-goers paid $1,000 for both the party and the show. This year, again returning as chair, Barry Krost said that the highest-priced tickets will still go for $1,000, but, said Krost, a producer and personal manager, “if you can afford a $1,000 ticket, you don’t need a dinner. So the proceeds of the dinner portion of the ticket will go to APLA’s ‘necessities of life’ program.”

There will still be a champagne reception following the show, which is being produced and directed by the stellar George Schlatter, who has volunteered his time. Putting together the event are co-chairs Mark Canton of Warner Bros., manager Sandy Gallin, producer David Geffen and Mike Medavoy of Orion Pictures. Krim, the honoree, is also the wife of Orion’s chairman of the board, Arthur Krim. . . . Burt Lancaster will be honored as the Man of the Year by Aid for AIDS, July 24 at the Beverly Wilshire. Lancaster is being commended for his appearance on an educational poster. The theme for the evening is “That’s What Friends Are For” and Susan Strasberg, Rep. Henry Waxman and Patty Duke Pearce are honorary chairs for the event. Last year Aid for AIDS provided more than $222,000 in direct financial assistance to people with AIDS and AIDS-related complex, according to Tom West, executive director. So far this year, more than $150,000 has been distributed.
