Garden Grove : Council Passes 1987-88 Budget of $63.5 Million

The City Council last week approved a $63,518,300 budget for the 1987-88 fiscal year, Assistant City Manager Mike Fenderson said.

The new budget is 4% greater than last year’s, Fenderson said, and reflects the amount city revenues rose in the past year.

The budget is balanced and has no surplus, he said.

Fenderson said basic city services will remain the same, although this year’s budget calls for hiring a few more police officers and firefighters. The budget also calls for expansion of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, plus $40,000 for services to senior citizens.

He said the new budget provides for street widening, building an auto mall parking garage and redeveloping the Century-Euclid-Garden Grove Boulevard business triangle.

The redevelopment plans will be final in the next few months. The City Council, after studying recommendations of an independent consultant, decided to raze many old commercial buildings in the business triangle.
