Single Promoter Awarded Contract for Motorsports
The Anaheim City Council voted Tuesday to award a single contract for the highly popular motorsports events at Anaheim Stadium, shutting out the promoters who have filled the stadium with sellout crowds for the last 10 years.
The council voted 4 to 1, with Councilman Irv Pickler dissenting, to award the contract to the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group over the objections of longtime Supercross promoter Mike Goodwin.
In the past, as many as three promoters have staged separate motorsports events in January at the stadium.
Stadium management sought to consolidate the events with one promoter. The consolidation is expected to save the city an estimated $50,000, stadium manager William Turner said.
