WASHINGTON — First Lady Nancy Reagan asked business leaders at a forum on drug abuse Wednesday to help in a campaign aimed at getting 10 million children to pledge they will not use drugs.
“You can have a meaningful impact on the whole drug crisis,” Mrs. Reagan told about 40 people gathered in the Indian Treaty Room of the Old Executive Office Building adjacent to the White House. “I am asking you today to use your influence, your energy, your resources to prevent drug abuse.”
The forum also was to help launch a drive for 10 million children to begin the new school year by signing “Just Say No” pledge cards, promising to abstain from using drugs.
Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III and Education Secretary William J. Bennett also spoke to the forum.
