Local News in Brief : Hikers Find Woman’s Skull in Sand Canyon
A human skull found by hikers in Sand Canyon in Canyon Country is that of a woman in her 30s, a spokesman for the Los Angeles county coroner’s office said Monday.
A coroner’s forensic anthropologist also determined that the woman was a Caucasian and had been dead for less than a year, said the spokesman, Bill Gold.
The skull and other assorted human bones were discovered about 3 p.m. Sunday in Sand Canyon Creek near Bear Divide south of California 14, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Cox. Sheriff’s homicide investigators searched the area where the skull and bones were found, but could locate no other skeletal remains, Cox said.
A coroner’s investigation into the cause of death is continuing, authorities said.
