Long Beach : Planning Commissioner
At Mayor Ernie Kell’s recommendation, the City Council on an 8-1 vote appointed James C. Serles to the Long Beach Planning Commission.
Councilwoman Jan Hall, who narrowly defeated Serles during the past two elections, was the lone dissenter. Hall cast her vote without comment, but several people who either opposed or questioned the appointment filled the gap. One opponent said he questioned “the motives” of the appointment by Kell, who will square off against Hall next year in a mayoral race.
Kell countered that the prominent local dentist “is going to prove to be one of the better appointments by this City Council.”
Serles will fill the spot left by Richard Gaylord’s resignation.
