Michael Andretti knocked A.J. Foyt off the pole for the Marlboro 500 Indy car race in the opening round of qualifications at Michigan International Speedway.
Foyt had a lap of 215.150 m.p.h. on the two-mile, high-banked oval, but Andretti turned a lap of 215.530 late in the qualifying session.
Mario Andretti, Michael’s father, took the outside spot on the three-car front row with a lap of 214.714.
