Pro-Sandinista Donors Ignored

Your article (July 19), “Orange County Developer Ranks With Top U.S. Donors To Contras,” details the pro- contra contributors with considerable background information as to their business and financial background, amounts donated, political affiliations, fund organizations, even some conservatives who were not solicited.

However, conspicuously absent is any such information on the anti-contra (pro-Sandinista) donors. Certainly, the anti-contra liberals and organizations who raised $27 million nationally last year, who hope to raise $100 million this year and who raised $40,000 in Southern California can’t all be retired sociology professors from Long Beach State University (who donate $10 per month) or social studies teachers from University High.

However, you didn’t see the need for further investigation. Your bias is showing. Apparently you wanted to convey the impression that pro-Sandinista contributors were a little-people U.S.A. to little-people-Nicaragua project versus the big spenders. But if you really cared to investigate, you could find plenty of liberal, large pro-Sandinista contributors. Of course, they might not want too much publicity for supporting a Marxist state government.
