A 71-year-old executive of a group of South Los Angeles pest control businesses has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and $133,000 in fines for the illegal transportation and disposal of hazardous waste. Victor Bernath, chief financial officer of The Termite Co., based on South Western Avenue, pleaded no contest to the charges last May stemming from the 1986 discovery of 500 gallons of a waste pesticide, known as “Kal-A-Fume” in the yard of a home in El Monte.
