Coaches Select SDSU, Brigham Young as Co-Favorites for WAC Football Title
San Diego State, the defending champion, and Brigham Young University were picked as co-favorites in the Western Athletic Conference by conference football coaches.
Both received 68 points, but BYU received five first-place votes to the Aztecs’ four. SDSU won its first conference title last season, breaking BYU’s streak of 10 straight championships.
The predicted order of finish and point totals for the rest of the colleges were: Air Force (51), Hawaii (47), Wyoming (46), Texas El Paso (37), Utah (33), Colorado State (28) and New Mexico (18).
BYU was favored to win the conference championship in a poll of journalists. BYU received 23 first-place votes and 261 points compared to SDSU’s nine first-place votes and 247 points.
The predicted order of finish and point totals for the other colleges in the media poll: Air Force (182), Wyoming (179), Hawaii (162), UTEP (111), Utah (90), Colorado State (89) and New Mexico (61).
