An Idea That Has Panache

Share

I’m very much impressed with the proposal of Philippe Marcelis of Panache restaurant to move the home of Gussie Moran to the Santa Monica Pier and convert it into a restaurant (Times, July 23). Even though pier renewal plans are still incomplete, I surely hope that his proposal will be seriously considered and thereby save the landmark home of the tennis star from demolition.

A sense of history is important, I believe, in serving as a backdrop for current events and assuring a feeling for tradition amid some of the chaos of our times. Moran’s home could serve as a reminder of the continuity of our ways of life and might even inspire some of the younger generations to consider the past as they cope with the present.
