Costa Mesa : Performing Arts Center Sues Architectural Firm

Share

The 10-month-old Orange County Performing Arts Center on Tuesday sued its architects for more than $250,000 after having to replace light fixtures and parts of the tile floor in the $70.7-million facility.

The lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court contended that four years ago, Caudill Rowlett Scott Inc. of Irvine--formerly CRS Sirrine Inc.--agreed to prepare blueprints for the posh center located east of South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

But the final plans left the center and patrons in the dark by omitting lights in portions of the ceiling, aisles and stairways, the lawsuit stated. A tile floor included in the plans also was “improper for its intended use,” according to the suit filed on the center’s behalf by the Costa Mesa-based law firm of Rutan & Tucker.

After pulling up the tile and installing additional lights, the Performing Arts Center wants at least $250,000 for its trouble and costs, plus interest, the suit indicates.

Officials of the architectural firm could not be reached for comment.
