Costa Mesa : Anti-Semitic Graffiti Writers Still Sought
Police were still searching Tuesday for vandals who painted anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi slogans such as “Hitler Lives” and “Feel the Heat of the Ovens” on the walls at Adams Elementary School on Club House Road over the weekend.
“It was pretty anti-Semitic,” said Newport-Mesa Unified School District Supt. John Nicoll. “We have a lot of problems with graffiti, but I don’t recall this particular brand being reported to me in the past.”
Nicoll said school board member Jim De Boom discovered the graffiti while visiting a YMCA day camp at the site Monday morning. The school district leases the closed school to various groups.
De Boom, who could not be reached for comment, was upset that the anti-Semitic writing was visible to children, Nicoll said. He added that it has been removed.
The Orange County Bureau of Jewish Education, the Lutheran Prince of Peace preschool and the YMCA camp all use the facility, according to the superintendent.
Nicoll said the incident is being treated more seriously than a school prank, which usually would not be reported to police.
