The county mental health hospital in Hillcrest has received full accreditation, officials of the county Department of Health Services said Tuesday.

Karenlee Robinson, administrator of the hospital, said the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals has withdrawn the conditions it applied in 1985 to the troubled facility’s accreditation.

At that time, the commission faulted the hospital’s monitoring and evaluation of dental, pathology, laboratory and radiology services.

The new survey results announced Tuesday included no such deficiencies, county health officials said. Robinson said the commission did make recommendations for improvements in such areas as professional staff organization, personnel policies and quality assurance.

The hospital, the county’s only public facility for the severely mentally ill, came under regulatory scrutiny in 1985 when state and federal officials sharply faulted it for providing substandard care.
