Redondo Beach Councilwoman a Sheriff’s Deputy

Redondo Beach Councilwoman Marcia Martin has announced that she graduated from a police academy recently and is now an Orange County sheriff’s deputy.

Her attendance at council meetings should greatly improve now that she is out of training, she said. “If not,” she said, “I’ll quit” the City Council. Martin, 35, was absent from 14 of 26 council meetings since being narrowly reelected to a second four-year term in March.

Martin said at a council meeting last month that she feared that she would fail the police academy because her shooting scores were low. She said she passed the tests, but her shooting and physical training scores were among the lowest in the 40-member class.

She said she placed first in her class in communication skills and second in academics. Martin said she will be assigned indefinitely to the Orange County women’s jail.
