West Los Angeles : Renovated Youth Center Opens

Share

The Marshall P. Riddick Youth Center, one of a few remaining community-run centers of its kind in the city, celebrated its reopening after a yearlong renovation.

The center, 2634 Overland Ave., had been in disrepair for several years until its board of directors last year decided to seek funds from local businesses and community groups to refurbish it. Most of the funds--$20,000--were donated by the Westside Pavilion shopping mall, said spokeswoman Nina Gordon.

The center has been the site of many youth activities and community meetings since its founding in the 1940s but has been increasingly neglected in recent years, Gordon said.
