Cities, Agencies May Share Cost of New Sewage Plant
Agencies that have disposal agreements with San Diego--including cities as well as sanitation and water districts--would have to share the estimated $1-billion cost of building a secondary treatment facility, according to a report submitted Wednesday by the city attorney to the City Council’s Public Services and Safety Committee.
The 15 cities and districts that make up the Metro Sewerage System could be billed “fair and equitable” charges to build a new secondary treatment facility, according to the report. The four-page report now goes to the City Council, where it is expected to be discussed late next month.
Metro Sewerage System members include: the cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, El Cajon, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, National City, Lemon Grove, Poway, Lakeside and Alpine, and the Rolando, Spring Valley, Otay, Padre Dam and Wintergardens sanitation and water districts.
