A 20-year-old man was shot to death in his car in West Covina. Police said Karl Eric Matthew was sitting in the car, beside a bank of pay telephones next to a closed liquor store, when he was shot four times by an unknown assailant. Witnesses told police they saw a man flee, and searchers spent seven hours using dogs, a helicopter and police patrol cars to comb the area near Garvey and Azusa avenues, without success.
