Operators of a defunct Eastside metal-plating company entered a plea of no contest to 10 charges of illegally disposing of hazardous wastes and were fined $50,000. Los Angeles Municipal Judge Maral Kirakosian also ordered the owners of Ideal Plating Inc. at 3467 Union Pacific Ave. to conduct a cleanup, which City Atty. James K. Hahn said could cost more than $100,000. Ideal Plating was voluntarily closed last fall after it was raided by the city’s Environmental Strike Force. Hahn said investigators found such problems as leakage of toxic materials into the soil and illegal dumping of liquid hazardous wastes into the city sewage system.
