Rick Schu doubled home two runs with two out in the 13th inning Thursday night to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals--who set a major league record by not making an outfield putout in the game.

The Cardinals recorded 27 outs on grounders, 8 on strikeouts, 3 on line drives to the infield and 1 on an infield popup.

The St. Louis outfield broke the major league record established in 1905 by the St. Louis Browns, whose outfield played an 11-inning game against Cleveland without a putout. The old National League record was set in 1899 by the New York Giants, whose outfield played a 10-inning game against Louisville without recording a chance.

Jack Clark of St. Louis failed to draw a walk, halting his National League record streak for walking in consecutive games at 16. Roy Cullenbine of the 1947 Detroit Tigers holds the major league record of 22.

Ken Dayley (7-3) allowed a one-out single to Luis Aguayo that started the Philadelphia rally. After Juan Samuel popped out, Dayley walked Milt Thompson, and Schu followed by hitting a 1-0 pitch to the wall in left-center, making a winner of Steve Bedrosian (4-2).

Wally Ritchie pitched the 13th inning for his second save.
