Share

A Brea man was arrested at his home Friday after fleeing an early morning accident in which a passenger of his pickup truck was fatally injured, police said.

Daniel Paul Bolie, 19, was arrested at 1:10 a.m. at his home in Brea and booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and felony drunk-driving, according to Sgt. Douglas Dickerson.

The crash occurred as Bolie was taking the Lambert Road exit off the Orange Freeway at 12:48 a.m., Dickerson said. Bolie lost control of the truck, which struck a curb and flipped on its side, pinning David Scott Mackie under it, he said.

Bolie fled on foot but later was arrested at his home on Driftwood Avenue after he was identified by Kevin Porter, a third passenger in the truck, Dickerson said.

Porter was not hurt in the crash.

“The streets were wet at the time, and I cannot say it was not a factor,” Brea Police Lt. Jim Wender said. “But in looking at the circumstances . . . we believe the primary cause of the collision was driving under the influence.”

Mackie, 20, of La Habra was taken to Brea Community Hospital, where he died of massive head injuries, Dickerson said.
