The Knee Bone’s Connected to the . . .
I have always thought Mary Decker Slaney a most remarkable athlete, and in last Sunday’s sports section I found out what her secret is: She possesses a unique anatomy.
Beneath the large-type headline “Still Recovering From Knee Surgery, Slaney Looks Ahead to 1988” the news item talks of Slaney “still recovering from Achilles’ tendon surgery.” Is her Achilles tendon attached directly to her knee? Does the tendon constitute the knee itself? The mind boggles.
