George Peppard and Kathryn Harrold are romantically linked in “Trouble in the City of Angels,” a TV movie that will be airing on NBC this coming season. It’s a police drama set in 1940s Los Angeles, with Peppard as a tough homicide detective. Also in the cast are Stella Stevens, Max Gail, Barry Corbin and Fredric Lehne.

Larry (Mark Linn-Baker) and Balki (Bronson Pinchot) will land jobs on a newspaper in ABC’s “Perfect Strangers” this season. Larry will be a reporter; Balki will work in the mail room.

A wide range of music stars, from Leonard Bernstein and Michael Tilson Thomas to Linda Ronstadt and Michael Feinstein, are featured in “George Gershwin Remembered,” a 90-minute biography of the famed composer that will air on PBS’ “American Masters” Aug. 24. Others sharing their feelings and analysis include Kitty Carlisle Hart, Mabel Shirmer and Gershwin’s sister, Frances Godowsky.

William Shatner, Robert Guillaume and Morgan Fairchild will host “Thanks for Caring,” a two-hour variety show celebrating the 40th anniversary of CARE, an international relief and development organization. It’ll be seen in Los Angeles on Aug. 31 over KABC-TV Channel 7.

Gary Collins will be back for his sixth stint as host of the Miss America Pageant. NBC plans to televise the Atlantic City event Sept. 19. The judges will be Peggy Cass, Frank Deford, Leonard de Paur, Mignon Dunn, Rupert Holmes, Judy Ford Johnson, Anita Mann and Bill G. Young.

Four religious organizations have formed an Interfaith Broadcasting Commission and will produce a four-part series for NBC, “The Promise of America.” The programs will deal with immigrants, homelessness, religious liberty and attitudes about the law. The participating organizations are the U.S. Catholic Conference, the National Council of Churches, the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and the Southern Baptist Radio and Television Commission.
