Local News in Brief : 104 Seized in Weekend Drunk Driving Sweep
A combined task force of California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles police officers arrested 104 suspected drunk drivers and seized two guns in a sweep of San Fernando Valley streets and freeways late Saturday and early Sunday, officials said.
The 75-member task force made the arrests between 7:15 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Dennis Zine.
Zine said the officers confiscated a semiautomatic pistol from one motorist and a BB gun from another.
The operation was the first joint task force sweep of the Valley, but follows a series of about 65 such sweeps by the LAPD since the first of the year, Zine said. The LAPD hopes to institute more joint task forces in the future, he said.
